Alex Molcan and Arthur Rinderknech are scheduled to take on one another in the second round of the 2022 ATP Swiss Indoors on October 26.
Alex Molcan had to play three sets against Mackenzie McDonald, but the Slovakian outlasted the American, who appeared tired at the end. Molcan delivered a solid, if unremarkable, match, which is fine because he’s still getting back into a good rhythm. His only previous match was in Stockholm, where he was defeated by J.J. Wolf. Overall, Molcan has had a successful year, going 30-23 overall and 1-2 indoors. He’s been okay on the surface in the past, but he needs to find a good level of consistency. His fitness is one of his greatest assets, as he can play a long match and did so against McDonald. He wore him down and pounced when his opponent couldn’t give it his all.
Saving match points and winning matches has become a habit for Arthur Rinderkench, who has done so several times this year. He did the same against Marin Cilic, and it was a fantastic win for him as he improved to 10-3 on the year indoors. With a 37-22 record, he’s had a very good year overall, but playing indoors has always raised his level because it allows him to generate a lot of force behind his first serve. As his primary weapon, everything begins and ends with his first serve. He’s quite tall, so he can go to the net and return quite well. All of this will play a role here, especially if Molcan provides him with plenty of chances.
