After falling in a close match to the well favored Brandon Nakashima in the second round, John Millman’s interest in the Atlanta Open was abruptly put to rest. Only once in the whole contest did the Australian lose service, but it cost him dearly as Nakashima prevailed 6-4, 7-6. For Millman, who has won half of his 14 matches so far this year on hard courts, a return to such surfaces will be a welcome respite. He will try to perform better than his three-set loss to Prajnesh Gunneswaran last time as he competes in just his second main draw match at Los Cabos.

One of the two Mexican wild cards in the competition is Alex Hernandez. Hernandez only saw tour-level opposition at his home event in Acapulco earlier this year, when he also received a wild card. However, Pablo Andujar defeated the 23-year-old 6-0, 6-1. Despite the fact that he will face Millman, a workhorse, the chances are undoubtedly against him, he will undoubtedly be aiming for a significantly improved performance. The fact that he has never been rated higher than 520 in the world explains why he hasn’t usually competed on the ATP’s main circuit or second tier.
