Daniil Medvedev and Nikoloz Basilashvili will face one another in the first round of the 2022 ATP Vienna Open on Wednesday, October 26.
Daniil Medvedev returns to Basel after losing to Novak Djokovic in the semifinals in Astana. He is aiming for a second title in 2022. The Russian has reached four finals this year, including one at the Australian Open, but he has only won one of his previous 13 titles. He won the ATP 250 in Los Cabos after defeating Cameron Norrie in the final. This season, the world number four is 40-15 overall. Aside from the Australian Open title and runner-up finishes at the Rosmalen Open and the Halle Open, he has three semifinal appearances. However, by Medvedev’s standards, he would be disappointed not to have reached more finals or won more titles this year.
Nikoloz Basilashvili has struggled throughout the season, particularly recently, winning only one match in his last seven tournaments. That victory came in Metz over Zizou Bergs, who had to retire despite leading 4-6, 1-2. The Georgian last looked convincing in Wimbledon, where he won the first two rounds before losing in the third. Basilashvili, who is 13-27 overall in 2022, has only won two tournaments in a row. The world number 94, who began the year as the world number 22 and briefly broke into the top 20 in the first half, has seen a steady decline in the rankings as a result of his struggles and is in real danger of dropping out of the top 100.
Daniil Medvedev and Nikoloz Basilashvili are scheduled to face one another in the first round of the 2022 ATP Vienna Open on Wednesday, October 26. The competition’s main draw is set to commence on October 24, 2022 and conclude on October 30, 2022.
