Jenson Brooksby fared well enough to get to the semifinals despite being far from convincing in his maiden Asian swing performance two weeks ago in Seoul. Before falling to eventual runner-up Denis Shapovalov in the semifinal, he defeated the brilliant Tung-lin Wu in three sets, defeated the unmotivated Soon Woo Kwon, and received a walkover from Cameron Norrie in the quarterfinal. The American had only only advanced past the quarterfinals of a major tour event outside of the USA once before, and that was in 2021 at a European indoor tournament during this time of the season, where he won five matches in a row without dropping a set on his way to the semifinal in Antwerp.
When Mackenzie McDonald was defeated by Soon Woo Kwon in three sets last week in Tokyo, it was his 13th second-round loss of the year (4-13). The American has had a lot of trouble moving past the second round of tour-level events; in the past 22 months, he has failed to go past that point 23 times. He has successfully advanced past the first round in both of his previous indoor competitions in Montpellier and Rotterdam, where he defeated Ilya Ivashka and Nikoloz Basilashvili in straight sets, respectively. This year, he has a strong 17-8 record in opening-round matches on the main circuit.
Mackenzie McDonald and Jenson Brooksby are scheduled to face each other in the first round of the 2022 ATP Firenze Open on Wednesday, October 12. The tournament is scheduled to begin on October 10 and end on October 16.
The ATP Firenze Open 2022 will have five rounds of action excluding the qualifiers. These are the round of 32, round of 16, quarter-finals, semi-finals and final. The competition’s main draw is set to commence on October 10, 2022 and conclude on October 16, 2022.

The total prize money for the Firenze Open’s inaugural event is USD 612,000. The winner will get a check for USD 93,090 as well as 250 ranking points.
