The second seed Belinda Bencic will face Petra Martic in the quarterfinal round of 2022 Lausanne open on Friday.
Belinda Bencic defeated fellow countrywoman and world no. 229 Susan Bandecchi with a score of 6-3, 6-4, dropping just one service game in the process to advance to her first ever quarterfinal on home soil. It was a much better performance than having to fight back against Diane Parry in the first round 3-6, 6-3, 6-1. She is currently one of the draw’s three remaining seeds. After escaping a recent ankle injury scare, the local favourite would be thrilled to advance further. After being forced to retire in the Berlin final against Ons Jabeur and losing to Wang Qiang in the opening round of Wimbledon, she recently suffered an ankle injury scare.
Petra Martic defeated 18-year-old Erika Andreeva, who had qualified for her first WTA main draw appearance, 6-4, 6-2, to advance into her second quarterfinal of the year. She was as forceful in her 76-minute 6-2, 6-2 victory over fifth seed Nuria Parrizas-Diaz in the opening round. The Croatian player has now endured the worst after failing to win back-to-back games in the second half of 2021 and in the first two months of 2022. She finished in the last 16 at Wimbledon and Rome, and she reached the quarterfinals at Indian Wells, but she has yet to reach a semifinal since the 2021 Italian Open.
Petra Martic and Belinda Bencic will take on each other on Friday, July 15 in the quarterfinal round of the 2022 Lausanne open. The competition is scheduled to commence on July 11 and conclude on July 17 this year.
