Following a dominant 6-1, 6-4 victory against Leolia Jeanjean in all French match, Caroline Garcia, a semifinalist in Lausanne last year, is back in the last eight. In 74 minutes without encountering a breakpoint, she outplayed her compatriot by hitting 40 winner to only 22 unforced errors. The former world no. 4 has had a lot of success in the previous two months after only once winning back-to-back matches in the first five months of the year. In Paris, she won her second Grand Slam doubles championship of her career. In Bad Homburg, she won her first singles title since 2019 and advanced to the round of 16 at Wimbledon.
Sara Sorribes Tormo defeated Clara Burel, who had advanced to last year’s final, 6-4, 6-2, and advanced to her first quarterfinal following injury issues on the clay-court swing. Although it is her first time in Lausanne, this will be her third quarterfinal in Switzerland after trips to Gstaad in 2017 and 2018. She has failed to go past the quarterfinals four times this season, most recently in Istanbul and Madrid. Shortly after, in Rome, she sustained a back injury, which required her to miss a month of play. The Spaniard has advanced to six semifinals overall in her career, but she hasn’t reached one on clay since Bogota and Gstaad in 2017.
Caroline Garcia and Sara Sorribes Tormo will take on each other on Friday, July 15 in the quarterfinal round of the 2022 Lausanne open. The competition is scheduled to commence on July 11 and conclude on July 17 this year.
