31-year-old Canadian Rebecca Marino, who will play in her second WTA Tour quarterfinal this month, is loving playing in Quebec. Her most recent appearance was in the Citi Open, where she qualified for the elite eight but lost to Daria Saville. She started out in the main draw this time and defeated players like Victoria Vanessa Mboko and third-seeded Jasmine Paolini in straight sets. With these victories, Marino’s season record now stands at 38-17, with a major percentage of his victories being in the ITF tournaments and qualifying rounds. Rebecca has competed in three ITF finals thus far in 2022, all of which have been on hard courts. She has been training really hard and has some momentum in her game, now ranking No. 122 in the world.

Marta Kostyuk and Canadian qualifier Marina Stakusic ended up in a rather unexpected three-set match, but she ultimately won 6-7(3), 6-4, 6-1. In the first match, the number 10 seed won in straight sets over Tamara Zidansek. The year has been very quiet for Kostyuk, who is now rated #72 and has a record of 21-14. While the most of her season has been spent in early losses, she has occasionally displayed talent. As a qualifier, Marta most notably advanced to the third round in Eastbourne and the round of 32 in Cincinnati. She participated in the Australian Open third round as well.
