After having a rough start to the US Open Series, Tatjana Maria appears to be finding her footing in this competition after winning her second consecutive match in straight sets to advance to the quarterfinals. Maria entered this competition with a record of 1-3 in the US Open Series despite this year’s Wimbledon semifinal appearance. Before winning in straight sets over Anna Bondar, she overcame Nadia Podoroska in the first match, 7-5, 6-1. The match ended with Maria winning 6-3, 6-2 in in 1 hour, 17 minutes, giving her the season’s first set of consecutive victories on a hard court surface. The 35-year-old Maria, who earlier this year won a title on the clay courts of Bogota, is in the midst of a strong second act in her career and would want to record another scorching victory here.

Tereza Martincova had a 2/5 chance of winning her second-round match against Diane Parry, but it was her opponent who triumphed without any trouble. Parry triumphed 6-3, 7-6 (1) to win her first two matches on hard courts after failing to advance past the first round in any of them earlier this season. In reality, Parry had only reached the first round twice in the eight hard court competitions she had participated in prior to this one and had exited the qualifiers on six more times. It’s interesting that Parry, who is presently ranked a few positions above of Maria, starts off as the favourite in this matchup. This might be because of the advantages of age. However, it’s important to keep in mind that Parry hasn’t played much tennis on hard courts, which could work in her opponent’s favour.

Tatjana Maria and Diane Parry are scheduled to face one another in the quarterfinal round of the 2022 Granby Open on Thursday, August 25. The tournament is scheduled to run from August 21 till August 27.
