Jiri Lehecka and Francesco Passaro will take on one another in the round-robin stage of the 2022 ATP Next Gen Finals on November 8.
Lehecka will end the season ranked 74th on the ATP rankings, having reached a season low of 143rd in the world as early as the second week of January. He had climbed to 59th place at one point in early August before settling 15 spots lower. That has allowed the Czech 20-year-old to advance to the Next Gen Finals, with his performances on clay helping him get there. Aside from his Challenger victory, Lehecka’s best performance this season came as a qualifier at the Rotterdam Open earlier this season. Victories over Denis Shapovalov, Botic van de Zandschulp, and Lorenzo Musetti propelled him to the final four stages before succumbing to Stefanos Tsitsipas.
Without a doubt, Francesco Passaro has been one of the most improved players in the world. The Italian started the 2021 season outside the top 1000, after being outside the top 600 earlier this year. He will end the year on the verge of breaking into the top 100, thanks to his performance on clay, much like his opponent here. Passaro’s best performance at the highest level came as a qualifier at the Florence Open, where he made it to the second round after winning two Challenger titles on the red dirt. However, the majority of his strong performances have come on the Challenger circuit, and a strong showing here could give him the confidence to take that step up when the new season begins in 2023.
Jiri Lehecka and Francesco Passaro are scheduled to take on one another in the round-robin stage of the 2022 ATP Next Gen Finals on November 8. The tournament is scheduled to be held from November 8 to November 12, 2022.
The eight players at the ATP Next Gen Finals 2022 have been divided into two groups, these are the Green group and the Red group. Each player will play one match against everyone in their group and the top two from each will make it through to the semi-finals. The top finisher of one group will face the second finisher of the other. The winner of those two matches will then meet in the final to decide who will win the 2022 ATP Next Gen Finals crown.
