Nick Kyrgios has had a fantastic season and will be confident of a strong showing in the tournament. However, he has been drawn in a difficult draw and could face top seed Daniil Medvedev in the third round. He is 3-1 all-time against the World No. 1, and they are 1-1 this year. While Medvedev triumphed at the Australian Open, Kyrgios triumphed at the Canadian Open. If everything goes as planned, this third-round matchup could be the most entertaining of the tournament, but let’s not get ahead of ourselves and focus on Kyrgios’ opener against his good friend Thanasi Kokkinakis.
Thanasi Kokkinakis had a strong start to the season in Australia, winning the Adelaide-2 title for his first ATP title. At the Australian Open, he also won his first Grand Slam doubles title with Kyrgios. But, since then, the World No. 70 has struggled to maintain consistency. He did make it to the Round of 16 in Miami and the quarterfinals in Geneva, but he also had several early exits. He is 16-12 this year overall, but his recent form has been poor. Kokkinkis has played three tournaments in the Americas since losing in the second round of Wimbledon, but has only won one main draw match.
