Nick Kyrgios, ranked 37th in the world, will play 36th-ranked Alejandro Davidovich Fokina on Tuesday in the opening round of the 2022 ATP Cincinnati Open.

Kyrgios has been experiencing the kind of career high that may well mark a turning point for him. And it started even before he competed in the Wimbledon final last month, where he might have had a chance to win the championship. Additionally, he competed on hard courts in the first part of the season, reaching the fourth round in Miami and the quarterfinals at the Indian Wells Open. Kyrgios has recently displayed the appearance of having improved his tennis. The Australian, who will move into the top 30 when the rankings are revealed on the following Monday, recently won the Washington Open and advanced to the quarterfinals in Montreal. And although Kyrgios lost a three-set match to Hubert Hurkacz, he had already defeated Alex de Minaur and Daniil Medvedev at that point.
While Nick Kyrgios has regained a component of his game that wasn’t working for him before, Alejandro Fokina appears to be having a forgettable season. The Spaniard may have advanced to the Monte-Carlo Masters final, but his performance ran the risk of being viewed as a passing fad. Alejandro Fokina has played in 32 games left in the season, and he has won just 13 of them. Alejandro Fokina had previously lost in the quarterfinal of the clay-court competition in Hamburg and been eliminated by Diego Schwartzman in the Montreal tournament’s opening round. And although he may have had a chance against the previous Kyrgios, the newer, sharper, and improved version may be too hot to handle.
Nick Kyrgios and Alejandro Davidovich Fokina are scheduled to face one another in the Opening round of the 2022 Cincinnati Open on Tuesday, August 16. The tournament is scheduled to run from August 14 till August 21.
The 2022 Cincinnati Open will see six rounds of action excluding the qualifiers. These include the round of 64, round of 32, round of 16, quarter-finals, semi-finals and final for both men’s and women’s. The tournament is scheduled to commence on August 14 and conclude on August 21 this year.
