Barbora Krejcikova and Aleksandra Krunic will face one another in a second round of the US Open 2022 on Wednesday, August 31.
Barbora Krejcikova, world No. 23, is off to a good start at Flushing Meadows, defeating Fernanda Contreras Gomez 6-0, 6-4 in just under 90 minutes. The Czech had 23 winners, but she also had 25 unforced errors to Gomez’s 17. Nonetheless, she has made it to round two and appears determined to continue. Barbora has had a whirlwind season, rising to a career-high ranking of World No. 2 in February before falling out of the top 20 due to injuries. Her season record now stands at 15-12, as the Czech arrived in New York after a largely uneventful US Open swing. She was eliminated in the first round in both Toronto and Cincinnati, and again in Cleveland last week.
96th in the world Aleksandra Krunic won her US Open debut by defeating Elina Avanesyan 6-4, 6-4. Her current score of 16–20 indicates that the Serbian woman, 29, hasn’t had the best start to the season. She had fallen to Marie Bouzkova and Aliaksandra Sasnovich in her most recent two matches in Cincinnati and Cleveland. A second-place finish in Budapest has been her savior, reintroducing her to the top 100. Krunic, however, hasn’t been the most reliable performer overall in 2022 and finds herself up against a tough opponent. Krejcikova is the undisputed favorite in this match; she stands a good chance of picking up quick points, developing her rhythm, and coasting into round three with ease.
Barbora Krejcikova and Aleksandra Krunic are scheduled to face one another in a second round match of the US Open 2022 on Wednesday, August 31. The 2022 US Open is all set to begin from August 29 till September 11.
