Anett Kontaveit, the second-ranked player in the world, will play Jaqueline Cristian, who is rated 76th, in the opening round of the 2022 US Open on Tuesday.
When Anett Kontaveit advanced to the clay-court final of the Hamburg Open last month, life on the court appeared to be going well for her. However, Kontaveit has now gotten off course a little bit as she tries to start producing on hard court surfaces. The world number two did win a few matches at the Prague Open, but she ultimately fell to Anastasia Potapova. And given that we are discussing the world number two, what transpired at the Canadian Open and the Cincinnati Open earlier this month has been awful. Jil Teichmann eliminated Kontaveit in Toronto in straight sets, and after having trouble defeating Tereza Martincova in Cincinnati, Kontaveit fell to Shuai Zhang in a three-set match.
She was injured more than five months ago and is now 24 years old and making a comeback on the circuit. Realistically, Jaqueline Cristian would like to see her perform valiantly in her first match after a break. The Romanian participated in seven events earlier this year before taking a break owing to fitness concerns. Prior to this, he had only competed in the main draw of one Grand Slam event. Cristian has only won four matches in the main draw, all of which took place on hard court surfaces, one of which was indoors. One of them happened at the Australian Open, where she defeated Priscila Hon to win her maiden match in a major. However, considering her lengthy layoff, facing up to the world number two will be too much for Cristian to handle.
Anett Kontaveit and Jaqueline Cristian are scheduled to face one another in the first round match of the US Open 2022 on Tuesday, August 30. The 2022 US Open is all set to begin from August 29 till September 11.
The 2022 US Open will see six rounds of action excluding the qualifiers. These include the round of 64, round of 32, round of 16, quarter-finals, semi-finals and final for both men’s and women’s. The tournament is scheduled to commence on August 29 and conclude on September 11 this year.
