Ajla Tomljanovic of Australia takes on Karolina Muchova of the Czech Republic on Tuesday in the opening round of the 2022 US Open.
After returning from injury, Karolina Muchova is currently ranked outside of the top 200 because she is struggling to play strong tennis. Due to her injuries, Muchova had to lose a lot of time, and her recovery has not been easy. She has not been able to turn the corner despite a few excellent victories here and there, including the one over Maria Sakkari at the French Open. She has a record of 6-6 since her return, but lately it has been primarily losses. She managed to win once in her previous competition, the Concord challenger, before quitting in round two. Although things haven’t been going well for Muchova lately, it was more than ten days ago, so perhaps she recovers from whatever ails her. Even when she was healthy, it didn’t look good, so we have no idea how she will do in this match.
Although Matteo Berrettini and Ajla Tomljanovic are no longer together, the Australian is currently playing better tennis than him. In Cincinnati, she produced a solid performance, defeating Paula Badosa and moving on to the quarterfinals. Although she showed improvement, she still appears to be in great shape going into the US Open. With a record of 28-20, it’s been a very successful year for her, and a victory over Muchova would bring her total wins up to 29, matching her tally from the previous year. Tomljanovic’s flat groundstrokes and strong serves make her a good choice for tennis in New York. She has recently been in good shape, as evidenced by the Cincinnati run. Given that Muchova hasn’t been playing any sort of strong tennis in a while, the draw is challenging but fair.
Ajla Tomljanovic and Karolina Muchova are scheduled to face one another in the first round match of the US Open 2022 on Tuesday, August 30. The 2022 US Open is all set to begin from August 29 till September 11.
