Karen Khachanov and Sebastian Korda are scheduled to face each other in the second round of the 2022 ATP European Open on October 20.
With a strong run to the US Open semifinal and two fortunate wins over retired Jack Draper and Nick Kyrgios, Karen Khachanov returns to the top 20 of the ATP rankings for the first time since 2020. (injured). After his spectacular run at the US Open, the former world number one Russian took a few weeks off before resuming his season in an indoor match in Astana earlier this month. Prior to losing in straight sets to the eventual champion Novak Djokovic in the quarterfinals, he defeated Marin Cilic and Maxime Cressy.
Marcos Giron, a fellow countryman, put Sebastian Korda to the test this week in the opening round of ATP Antwerp. He battled through some challenging times in the decider after dropping the second set in the tiebreaker before winning 6-3, 6-7, 6-4 in two hours and 24 minutes. The American achieved his career-best performance on the surface in Gijon last week when he fell to a Russian opponent, Andrey Rublev, in the final. The American has advanced at least to the quarterfinals in two of his previous three appearances on indoor hard courts this year.
