The 2022 WTA Granby Open's top seed Daria Kasatkina will play against Magdalena Frech in the second round on Wednesday.
The current World No. 10 Daria Kasatkina was involved in an out of the ordinary three-set match with Greet Minnen of Belgium. The top seed rallied after dropping the opening set to win the match 6-7(4), 6-4, and 6-2. This tournament in Quebec is really Kasatkina’s to lose because she is the only top-20 player in the field. However, given her recent slump in performance, it might be difficult for her to finish the race. She was eliminated in the first round of her most recent tournaments in Toronto and Cincinnati, respectively, by Bianca Andreescu and Amanda Anisimova. However, she had previously won the WTA 500 San Jose championship after defeating a number of well-known players including Elena Rybakina, Aryna Sabalenka, and Paula Badosa. Overall, Kasatkina has had a respectable season, making many appearances in the late rounds of high-profile competitions like the French Open, Berlin Open, Italian Open, and Sydney International.
Magdalena Frech, the 104th-ranked player in the world, defeated Danka Kovinic 7-6(3), 6-2 to get the Granby Bank Championships off to a promising start. With this victory, she raised her record to 23–24 and now aspires to record her greatest WTA performances of the year. The 24-year-old has lost early or in qualifying matches for the majority of the season; Wimbledon has been the only high point for her (round three). Frech also participated in the Concord and Paris Challengers quarterfinals and the WTA 125 Saint-Malo semifinals. The results Magdalena has with the top 10 players are also not particularly spectacular.
Daria Kasatkina and Magdalena Frech are scheduled to face one another in the second round of the 2022 Granby Open on Wednesday, August 24. The tournament is scheduled to run from August 21 till August 27.
The 2022 Granby Open will see six rounds of action excluding the qualifiers. These include the round of 64, round of 32, round of 16, quarter-finals, semi-finals and final for women’s. The tournament is scheduled to commence on August 21 and conclude on August 27 this year.
