Daria Kasatkina and Harriet Dart are scheduled to face one another in the first round match of the US Open 2022 on Tuesday, August 30.
Daria Kasatkina has had a bit of a chalk and cheese showing during the US Open Series, so the question is which of the two will be on display at the season’s final Grand Slam. Because Kasatkina began her career with a tournament at the San Jose Open before suffering back-to-back opening losses at WTA 1000 events in Canada and Cincinnati. As a result of being forced to compete in the Granby Open, Kasatkina has made it to the final at the time of writing, demonstrating how good a player the world number 10 is. The only drawback is that she has now played five matches in seven days, with a day’s rest in between she will be playing her sixth match in nine days.
Harriet Dart surprised many when she advanced to the fourth round of the Indian Wells Open earlier this year after entering as a qualifier. Dart’s hard court performances since then haven’t quite lived up to expectations. After losing in the first round of the Washington Open and failing to advance past the qualifying stage of both the Canadian Open and the Cincinnati Open, she needed to do some soul searching. While she did win the Granby Open, a second round loss means she enters the US Open with only one main draw win in four hard court tournaments. Overcoming Kasatkina despite her opponent’s exhaustion may be difficult.
