On Tuesday in the round of 32 WTA Slovenia open, Alize Cornet of France will face Kaja Juvan of Slovenia.
This season, Alize Cornet has played the spoiler, and it has been on full display in North America. She attracted the most attention by defeating Caroline Garcia in Toronto, advancing to the semifinals in Cleveland, and stopping Emma Raducanu‘s title defence at the US Open’s first round. She beat Simona Halep and Garbine Muguruza earlier this year to advance to her first Grand Slam quarterfinal in Melbourne, Jelena Ostapenko in the third round at Paris, Angelique Kerber in the semifinal at Bad Homburg, and Iga Swiatek‘s winning streak at Wimbledon.
In Portoroz last year, Kaja Juvan advanced to her first WTA quarterfinal and semifinal. She won over former top-20 player Petra Martic and Roland-Garros semifinalist Tamara Zidansek in straight sets, much to the pleasure of her home audience, before falling to third-seeded Alison Riske in the final four. The 21-year-old, bearing an uncertain form, is back on her home grounds. She competed in her first WTA final in Strasbourg, where she came close to defeating Angelique Kerber for the championship, and matched her greatest grand slam performance at Wimbledon. But in five of her previous six matches, she has also come up empty-handed.
Alize Cornet and Kaja Juvan are scheduled to face each other in the round of 32 of the 2022 WTA Slovenia Open on Tuesday, September 13. The tournament is scheduled to begin on September 12 and end on September 18.
