Su Jeong Jang and Lin Zhu will face each other in the round of 32 of the 2022 WTA Korea Open on September 19.
When Zhu Lin competed in the Korea Open in December in its temporary 125K avatar, she earned the biggest title of her career. She defeated former world no. 10 Kristina Mladenovic in the championship match with a score of 6-4, 6-0, winning all four of her matches in straight sets. Her first trophy of any type in two years was that one. She was ranked 142nd when she was in Seoul the previous year, but she is now a top 70 player. The Chinese player is moving up the ladder with sub-tour success, including winning the W100 Landisville title just last month. She may not have advanced past the WTA quarterfinals in two and a half years.
In recent clay-court competitions in Europe, Jang Su-jeong reached the W60 semifinal in Collonge-Bellerive, Switzerland. Given that she has won championships on the surface this season at W60 Canberra and 125K Bastad, it makes sense why she is still playing on dirt. Two of the Korean player’s four WTA main draw victories, who is 27 years old, came from this particular competition. She advanced to the quarterfinals in 2013 as a promising adolescent by defeating the fourth seed, Klara Koukalova, and a particular 184th-ranked qualifier named Ons Jabeur.
Su Jeong Jang and Lin Zhu are scheduled to face each other in the round of 32 of the 2022 WTA Korea Open on Friday, September 19. The tournament is scheduled to begin on September 19 and end on September 25.
