Lizette Cabrera and Lulu Sun will face each other in the round of 32 of the 2022 WTA Korea Open on September 19.
Lizette Cabrera had an overall season record of 8-18 wins-losses when she came in Seoul. Since reaching the quarterfinals of W60 Prague in May, the competition that came immediately after her four-month injury layoff, she hadn’t won two consecutive matches. Additionally, she hadn’t participated in a WTA main draw by herself since September 2021. In order to qualify for the Korea Open, the Australian overcame world no. 421 Olivia Tjandramulia and no. 399 Liang En-shuo in straight sets. She will try to improve her 1-8 record since the beginning of 2021 and her 7-22 record in tour-level main draw matches (only beat Wang Yafan in Nottingham last year).
In Rabat this summer, Lulu Sun made her tour-level main draw debut as a wildcard and fell to Arantxa Rus in the opening round. Months later, she won the Granby qualifying matches over Jana Fett and Ena Shibahara but lost the opening round to Diane Parry in straight sets. She used to compete in college tennis for the University of Texas, where she contributed to the team’s third women’s national championship in 2021. The Swiss player, 21, who had a four-digit ranking at the time of the lockdown, has advanced to four ITF finals over the past two years and achieved the top number of 260 this June.
Lizette Cabrera and Lulu Sun are scheduled to face each other in the round of 32 of the 2022 WTA Korea Open on Friday, September 19. The tournament is scheduled to begin on September 19 and end on September 25.
