Ons Jabeur and Veronika Kudermetova are scheduled to face one another in a round of 16 match of the US Open 2022 on Sunday, September 4.
Ons Jabeur struggled to get going in her third round match against Shelby Rogers, and the American took full advantage of the situation before her higher-ranked opponent found her stride. Jabeur needed two hours and 16 minutes to get past Rogers and into the fourth round of the US Open for the first time in her career. The Tunisian number one won 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 in a match that featured 10 serve breaks, four of which came from Jabeur’s racquet. Jabeur’s improved first serve percentage in the second and third sets (around 87% compared to 57% in the first) helped her win.
Veronika Kudermetova had never advanced past the first round of the US Open before this year. This time, she has already advanced to the fourth round without losing a single set. And her third-round win over Dalma Galfi was the most convenient of the bunch, lasting only 48 minutes and ending with Kudermetova winning 6-2, 6-0. She faced no break points while giving her opponent five of them. Kudermetova had previously reached the semifinals of the San Jose Open, which is part of the US Open Series, before losing in the first round in Canada and reaching the third round in Cincinnati.
