Cori Gauff vs Shuai Zhang are scheduled to face one another in a round of 16 match of the US Open 2022 on Sunday, September 4.
Cori Gauff is currently 6/1 to win the title, ranking third behind Iga Swiatek and Caroline Garcia, and it’s easy to see why. Gauff demolished her opponent in straight sets for the third time in a row, with the scary thing being her improved play as the rounds progressed. Not to mention that Gauff’s third-round victory came against a highly-regarded and in-form opponent in Madison Keys. Previously, she had defeated Leolia Jeanjean and Elena Ruse in the first two rounds. Gauff lost her serve in the first game against Keys, but from then on, she broke her countrywoman three times to take the first set.
Shuai Zhang, like Gauff, has won all three rounds in straight sets. Rebecca Marino was her most recent victim, whom she defeated 6-2, 6-4 to set up a fourth round meeting for the first time at the US Open. Zhang, who had beaten Jil Teichmann and Anna Karolina Schmiedlova in the first two rounds, needed only an hour and five minutes to beat Marino. The world number 36 broke her opponent three times while facing no break-points during the match. She won 73% of her first serve points, but it’s worth noting that she only hit 14 winners to her opponent’s 16.
Cori Gauff and Shuai Zhang are scheduled to face one another in a round of 16 match of the US Open 2022 on Sunday, September 4. The 2022 US Open is all set to begin from August 29 till September 11.
