The Los Cabos Open is a professional men’s tennis tournament played on outdoor hard courts. It is part of the ATP Tour 250 series of the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Tour. It is held annually in August in Los Cabos, Baja California Sur, Mexico. The 2022 Los Cabos Open, also known as the Abierto de Tenis Mifel for sponsorship reasons, is an ATP tennis tournament to be played on outdoor hard courts. It is the 6th edition of the tournament, and part of the ATP Tour 250 series of the 2022 ATP Tour. It will take place in Los Cabos, Mexico from 1 through 6 August 2022.
Rodrigo Pacheco Mendez has been given a wildcard and a great chance to establish a name for himself on the ATP Tour. In the first round, he will face Rinky Hijikata. Hijikata has made waves at the ITF level in the previous year or so. In that time, the Australian has won six races on the circuit. He has yet to show his ability to consistently compete at higher levels, but at 21 years old, he has lots of time to rectify that. This is a once-in-a-lifetime chance for each of these men. In this one, I believe Hijikata’s experience will be more important than Mendez’s home crowd. In their matchup, Hijikata won in straight sets.
