On Monday, Beatriz Haddad Maia of Brazil will take on Martina Trevisan of Italy in the opening round of the 2022 WTA Canadian Open.
Beatriz Haddad Maia, who has a record of 36-15, two singles victories, and three doubles final appearances to her credit, will compete in Toronto. Her greatest achievements include winning titles back-to-back in Nottingham and Birmingham as well as doubles champion trophies in Sydney and Nottingham. In the doubles competition at the Australian Open, Maia finished second to Anna Danilina. With two finals in Saint-Malo and Paris, Beatriz has also performed well on the Challenger circuit. The Brazilian is clearly one of the underdogs in this year’s Canadian Open because of his outstanding consistency on all surfaces. She lost to Claire Liu in the Silicon Valley Classic opener last week, so her US Open swing did not go as planned.
26 in the world just one position behind Maia in the rankings, Martina Trevisan might feel a little out of place on the court this week. Hard courts have never been Trevisan’s strong suit; the clay court is her preferred surface, where she has appeared in 17 ITF finals and won one WTA title. She also achieved her season’s most notable results in Rabat and in the French Open, where she won and reached the semifinals, respectively. Martina’s performance has been somewhat subdued on other surfaces; her best performance there this year was one round-two appearance at the Australian Open (as a qualifier). She will undoubtedly have a disadvantage when playing Maia.
Beatriz Haddad Maia and Martina Trevisan are scheduled to face one another in the round of 64 of the 2022 Canadian Open on Monday, August 8. The tournament is scheduled to run from August 8 till August 15.
The 2022 edition of the Canadian Open is set to begin from August 8 and go on until August 15. The men’s final is scheduled to be on August 15 and the women’s one is set to be held on August 14. There will be six rounds of play in the main draw excluding the qualifiers.
