Tallon Griekspoor and Marcos Giron are scheduled to face each other in the first round of the 2022 ATP Vienna Open on October 24.
After all the success he had on the Challenger circuit the previous year, Griekspoor’s year has primarily been one of consolidation, though he proved in July that he is still an effective performer at that level by winning another title at home. He did, however, make it to his first senior tour quarterfinal back in Melbourne at the beginning of the year, and for a small period, he was a top 50 player. However, recent results have been dismal, as he hasn’t managed to win a game since making it to the second round in Winston-Salem.
In San Diego, Giron recently made it to his first senior final, defeating Evans en route, but ultimately fell short to fellow countryman Brandon Nakashima. His best performance in 2022 up until that point had been a semi-finalist finish in Dallas in February, albeit there had been a few quarter-finals in between. He advanced to the second round in Gijon after returning to Europe, but he met the same end in Antwerp as Griekspoor.
