On Sunday in the fourth round of the 2023 Australian Open, Coco Gauff will take on Jelena Ostapenko, the winner of the 2017 French Open. The adolescent struck first, taking an early break to lead the first set 4-1. At 5-2 and with three set points on her opponent’s serve, she was unable to win the match. In the second set, she got off to a quick start, breaking Pera’s serve twice to take the lead 4-1. At 5-2, the young American took the field to serve for the match. She lost three match points and then had to hold off a few break points. Gauff finally prevailed 6-3, 6-2 on her fourth match point.

To advance to the third round, where she faced Kateryna Baindl, Ostapenko defeated Dayana Yastremska and Anna Bondar. The Latvian dropped serve in the opening game of the match but won the following four straight games to take a 4-1 lead. Ostapenko kept a firm hold on the situation and quickly won the first set. In the second set, she upped her game even more, serving up a bagel to win the match 6-3, 6-0. For the first time in Melbourne, the 25-year-old has now advanced to the fourth round.
