Monday's opening round of the 2022 US Open will pit world number 17 Caroline Garcia against 90th-ranked Kamilla Rakhimova of Russia.

Garcia won’t soon forget the kind of season it was. Caroline Garcia struggled to get going and was as low as 79th in the world as recently as May this season, but she has now made a successful turnaround. The Frenchwoman, whose most recent WTA championship came in Cincinnati, had last claimed one in 2019, but between June and August, she added three more to her collection. Garcia, who had to qualify to enter the main draw, beat some of the best tennis players, including Petra Martic, Maria Sakkari, Elise Mertens, Jessica Pegula, Aryna Sabalenka, and Petra Kvitova, to win her first WTA 1000 championship since 2017. Rakhimova chose to compete in the WTA125 tournament in Concord after being eliminated from the qualifications at the San Jose Open earlier this month, but she failed to go past the opening round there. The 2022 US Open will see six rounds of action excluding the qualifiers. These include the round of 64, round of 32, round of 16, quarter-finals, semi-finals and final for both men’s and women’s. The tournament is scheduled to commence on August 29 and conclude on September 11 this year.
