On Monday, American Ann Li will take on Colombian Camila Osorio in the opening round of the 2022 US Open.
After making the Monterrey Open final, 20-year-old Camila Osorio climbed to her career-high ranking of No. 33 in just April. Following a string of poor showings on the tour, she is currently ranked #70. Her record reads 12-14, with a sizable portion of the victories occurring in Bogota and Monterrey (where she was a semifinalist). In her last seven tournaments on the tour, Osorio has only managed one victory, which she achieved against Sofia Kenin in the Citi Open’s opening round. It will be challenging for her to settle into her routine in New York without any shape or momentum. She is fortunate that Li is in a similar tide.
In her first professional encounter since losing to Marie Bouzkova in round two of the Wimbledon Championships, hometown favourite Ann Li will take the court. Since the 22-year-old hasn’t competed in a tournament in over a month and a half, she might not be in the best of shape and is probably rusty as well. The two tournaments where Ann performed best this season on hard courts were Indian Wells and Miami, when she advanced to the second and third rounds, respectively. In addition to this, she also advanced to the semifinals of Melbourne Summer Set 2. Li, who is ranked 66th in the world right now, came in New York with a score of 10–12.
Ann Li and Camila Osorio are scheduled to face one another in the first round match of the US Open 2022 on Monday, August 29. The 2022 US Open is all set to begin from August 29 till September 11.
The 2022 US Open will see six rounds of action excluding the qualifiers. These include the round of 64, round of 32, round of 16, quarter-finals, semi-finals and final for both men’s and women’s. The tournament is scheduled to commence on August 29 and conclude on September 11 this year.
