No. 5 seed Caroline Garcia of France and no. 10 seed Jasmine Paolini of Italy will compete in the 2022 WTA Poland Open semifinal on Saturday.

For the first time in her career, Caroline Garcia defeated the World No. 1 Iga Swiatek in the Poland Open quarterfinal. The fifth seed’s victory put an end to the Polish player’s flawless clay court record from 2022. In Bad Hamborg last month, Garcia—who has been in excellent form lately—won her seventh career title and first in three years. Her incredible performance against the top seed on Friday allowed her to go to another semifinal. The World No. 45 outperformed Swiatek in the first set before losing to the local favourite in the next. Both players maintained serve for the opening seven games of the decider before three straight breaks put an end to the encounter. Garcia broke initially, Swiatek promptly retaliated, but Garcia broke once more to win the two hours and eighteen minute match 6-1, 1-6, 6-4.
On Friday’s quarterfinal, Jasmine Paolini overcame a set deficit to defeat Viktorija Golubic and advance to her second straight semifinal. Paolini started her campaign with a 6-1, 6-1 demolition of Danka Kovini, then in the second round, she defeated Clara Burel in three sets. Paolini struggled to get going in Friday’s quarterfinal as the Swiss broke her three times to easily win the opening set. However, the Italian came back strongly and won the match in one hour and 55 minutes, 1-6, 6-2, 6-2, breaking Golubic three times in each of the following two sets while only being broken once in each of those sets.
Caroline Garcia and Jasmine Paolini will face each other in the semifinal round of the 2022 WTA Poland Open on Saturday, July 30. The WTA 250 competition is scheduled to start from July 25 and end on July 31 this year.
