The sixth seed Caroline Garcia will face against Leolia Jeanjean in the round of 16 of Lausanne 2022 open on Thursday.
Caroline Garcia defeated Jasmine Paolini 6-3, 6-3, preserving all six breakpoints over the course of four games, continuing her impressive run of success. She is making her third consecutive trip to Lausanne, where she fell in the second round in 2018 but advanced to the semifinals by defeating three players outside the top 100. Her second Grand Slam doubles championship at Roland-Garros has given her a fresh lease on life. The Frenchwoman followed it up admirably by winning the Bad Homburg championship and reaching Wimbledon’s fourth round. She had a 10-3 record while playing on grass courts, with half of her victories coming in sets of three.
After Tatjana Maria, the oldest player ever to reach a Grand Slam semifinal, gave Leolia Jeanjean a remarkable first-round walkover, Jeanjean enjoyed a day of rest. She won straight sets victories over world no. 187 Yuki Naito and world no. 315 Lena Papadakis in the qualifying rounds to start her trip. Just a few weeks ago at Roland-Garros, the 26-year-old made her tour-level debut, shocking both Karolina Pliskova and Nuria Parrizas-Diaz. It was a fantastic outcome for a tennis player who only began playing professionally full-time last year after obtaining her MBA in the US.
Caroline Garcia and Leolia Jeanjean will take on each other on Thursday, July 14 in the round of 16 of the 2022 Lausanne open. The competition is scheduled to commence on July 11 and conclude on July 17 this year.
