Fifth seed Caroline Garcia will begin her 2022 WTA Poland Open campaign against unseeded Japanese player Misaki Doi. Garcia have had decent performances ever since Wimbledon. The Frenchwoman reached the semi-final of the Ladies Open Lausanne and the quarter-final of the Palermo Ladies Open. Garcia might have hoped to go deeper into the competition at Palermo but a determined Lucia Bronzetti saw her off by a score of 3-6, 7-5, 6-3.
Doi has not made much of an impact in singles competition so far this season. Her last competition was the German Open where she was eliminated in the second round by eighth seed Anna Petkovic. Before that, the Japanese was a participant in the German Open but was ousted in the first round of the main draw by Olga Danilovic.
Iga Swiatek and Magdalena Frech will face each other in the first round of the 2022 WTA Poland Open on Monday, July 25. The WTA 250 competition is scheduled to start from July 25 and end on July 31 this year.
