World no. 1 Iga Switaek’s home WTA competition will see her take on compatriot Magdalena Frech in the first round. Swiatek is seeded first in the 2022 WTA Poland Open and she will be hoping to emerge victorious in the competition. The Pole’s last competiton was Wimbledon where she was beaten in the third round by Alize Cornet. Earlier this year, Swiatek was on a dream run, winning the French Open, Italian Open, Qatar Open, Indian Wells Masters, Miami Open and Stuttgart Open, one after another. She will be hoping to gain that form again, starting with her opponent on Monday.
Frech had a decent run at Wimbledon, reaching the third round before being beaten by Simona Halep. The Pole then participated in the German Open and made it through to the round of 16 where she was eventually defeated by third seed and former world no. 1, Barbora Krejcikova.
Iga Swiatek and Magdalena Frech will face each other in the first round of the 2022 WTA Poland Open on Monday, July 25. The WTA 250 competition is scheduled to start from July 25 and end on July 31 this year.
