Taylor Fritz, world number 14, will face British wildcard Alastair Gray in the second round of the 2022 Wimbledon on Thursday, June 30. Fritz and Gray have never played a competitive match before. Fritz advanced quickly to the second round, and he will now try to match his previous best performance at Wimbledon when he faces the little-known British player. In one hour and 45 minutes, Fritz defeated Lorenzo Musetti 6-4, 6-4, 6-3, hammering 16 aces and breaking his opponent four times while dropping his own serve only once.
Gray, who made his ATP debut in 2019, was playing in his maiden Grand Slam match after receiving a wildcard, and beat out Chun Hsin Tseng in what appeared to be a surprising result. He won 6-3, 6-3, 7-6 (3) in two hours and 26 minutes to advance to the second round and confront Fritz. Gray, who hit seven aces and 54 winners, also saved nine of the ten break points he faced during the match. Fritz had an easy start and should be expected to win in straight sets again.
Taylor Fritz v Alastair Gray are scheduled to face each other on Thursday, June 30 in the second round of the 2022 Championships. The timing of the match has not been decided yet. The Championship is scheduled to begin on June 27 and go on until July 10. There were a number of exciting matches in the first round as the likes of Djokovic, Alcaraz, Murray, Shapovalov and others were in action.
