Cristian Garin will attempt to capitalize on his good fortune when he faces Hugo Grenier in the second round of the 2022 Wimbledon.
Cristian Garin, world number 43, will attempt to capitalize on his good fortune when he faces Hugo Grenier in the second round of the 2022 Wimbledon on Thursday, June 30. Before this, Cristian and Grenier had never competed against each other. The men’s singles first draw saw five fortunate losers, and Grenier was the only one to win his opening round match and advance to the final 64. Grenier won his first Grand Slam main draw match, defeating fellow qualifier Marc-Andrea Hüsler in five sets that lasted nearly four hours.
First-round opponent Matteo Berrettini, who was considered to be one of the tournament’s favorites after Novak Djokovic, was who Garin was slated to face. The Italian number one was forced to leave the race at the last minute after testing positive for Covid-19. Elias Ymer, a fortunate loser, took Berrettini’s spot in the draw as a consequence. Grenier might win this set because of his confidence and inexperience, even if Garin is the early favourite.
Cristian Garin v Hugo Grenier are scheduled to face each other on Thursday, June 30 in the second round of the 2022 Championships. The timing of the match has not been decided yet. The Championship is scheduled to begin on June 27 and go on until July 10. There were a number of exciting matches in the first round as the likes of Djokovic, Alcaraz, Murray, Shapovalov and others were in action.
128 players enter The Championships’ main draw every year, both for the Ladies’ and Gentlemen’s Singles categories.
