The in-form Wolf had little trouble defeating Radu Albot in the second round of this competition after easily defeating Brandon Holt in the first round. The 6-3, 7-6 (5) victory over Albot took the American, who has improved to his career-high position of 43rd in the world, one hour and 48 minutes. Wolf was broken only once, in the second set, when he served to go 4-2 up in the match, despite having faced 10 break points overall. Wolf did not allow that to much affect him, as he won the subsequent tie-breaker off the third match-point he faced. While Wolf had previously advanced to the second round of the Auckland Open, it was in the Australian Open, where he had reached round four, that he produced his best Grand Slam performance. As he attempts to defeat a top-20 player and get to the semifinals, this may be his opportunity to make the big leagues and break into the top 40.
After receiving a bye in the first round, Tiafoe needed just 60 minutes to defeat Mackenzie McDonald in the second round and secure his spot in the tournament’s final eight. Tiafoe defeated McDonald 6-1, 6-3 in a match which he only had one break point, which he saved, and where he also broke his opponent four times. The American played a part in the USA’s victory in the first United Cup, earning his eighth victory of the year to go along with just one defeat. After that, Tiafoe won a few more matches at the Australian Open before losing to Karen Khachanov in the third round. Tiafoe has climbed to a career high of 14th in the world thanks to these victories, and with a few deep runs this month, he plans to get into the top 10. A motivated Wolf will want to make things very difficult for him. Wolf’s serving may make things more challenging for Tiafoe, who is a 9/20 favourite. There may only be two sets here, but they may be two very hard-fought sets.

The world number 14 Tiafoe and the 43rd-ranked Wolf only previously played in the Rogers Cup qualifying of 2021, and Tiafoe won the match in three sets.
