On Monday, the first round of the 2022 US Open will feature world number 56 Yoshihito Nishioka of Japan taking on world number 39 Alejandro Davidovich-Fokina of Spain.
Spaniard is well known for being an expert on clay courts. Alejandro Davidovich-Fokina won the doubles in Chile two years ago and made it to the Monte Carlo Masters final in April. Nevertheless, he beat opponents like Hubert Hurkacz and Cameron Norrie to go to the fourth round in New York two years ago. Even while he did make it to the second round in Indian Wells back in March, he hasn’t had the best luck so far in 2022 on American hard courts. But after that, he lost in the first round in Miami, and more recently, he lost at the same point in both Montreal and Cincinnati.
Nishioka had a decent start to the year, winning a Challenger tournament in Columbus and then, after advancing through qualifying in Miami, making it to the third round. The Japanese then struggled to win any kind of match over the following four months. Although he was able to regain some form on the Challenger circuit, it was still completely unexpected for him to make it to his first senior final in more than two years in Washington before falling to Nick Kyrgios in straight sets. His most recent match was a loss in the first round on the Challenger tour in Vancouver, however since that time, he has advanced to the second round in Montreal.
Alejandro Davidovich-Fokina and Yoshihito Nishioka are scheduled to face one another in the first round match of the US Open 2022 on Monday, August 29. The 2022 US Open is all set to begin from August 29 till September 11.
