In the 2022 ATP Hamburg Open's second round on Wednesday, world number 186 Jozef Kovalik of Slovakia will face world number 35 Alejandro Davidovich-Fokina of Spain.

Davidovich-Fokina made a promising start to his Hamburg campaign by defeating the number five seed, Botic van de Zandschulp of the Netherlands, in straight sets. Davidovich-Fokina was playing on the surface on which he reached the final of the Monte Carlo Masters back in April. Prior to the world number 25 being broken once more, the pair traded breaks to start the match. After briefly levelling, he dropped his serve once more, and the Spaniard served out the set. Early on in the second set, the players traded breaks once more, but after three lost service breaks, Davidovich-Fokina took the lead by one break. All that was left for him to do from then was to maintain his advantage, which he duly achieved.
In order to advance to the main draw, Jozef Kovalik won the qualification match in Hamburg, defeating Alexander Shevchenko and Henri Laaksonen of Switzerland. Then, fate decided to favour him by teaming him with the German Mx Hans Rehberg, an 18-year-old wildcard who is now rated 830 in the world. On his ATP main circuit debut, the teenager, though, had no nervousness, winning the opening set with to two service breaks. The Slovak was staring a shocking loss in the face when he fell behind by a break in the second set. However, he came back, immediately broke back, and then broke once more, giving him the chance to serve out the second set. Rehberg’s lack of experience was evident as he lost two breaks in the third set, but he wasn’t quite done yet and managed to get one of them back. However, the Slovak finally ended his challenge by breaking him once more.
Alejandro Davidovich Fokina and Jozef Kovalik will take on each other on Wednesday, July 20 in the second round of the 2022Â ATPÂ Hamburg European open. The competition is scheduled to commence on July 18 and conclude on July 24 this year.

The 2022 Hamburg European Open will have five rounds of play both for the ATP and WTA competitors. These are the first round, second round, quarter-finals, semi-finals and final. The tournament is scheduled to be held from July 18 to July 24, but the qualifiers will commence from July 16 for both the men’s and women’s categories.
