In the opening round of the Hamburg European Open on Tuesday, top seed Carlos Alcaraz will take on Nicola Kuhn.
Alcaraz won his maiden championship at the Rio Open, defeating Diego Schwartzman 6-4, 6-2. In the wake of it, he advanced to the Indian Wells Masters semifinals before defeating Casper Ruud to win his first Masters 1000 championship in Miami. Alcaraz maintained his strong play throughout the claycourt season, winning the Barcelona Open by defeating Pablo Carreno Busta. In Madrid, the 19-year-old then won his second Masters 1000 championship of the year. Alcaraz participated in Wimbledon as the fifth seed after losing in the quarterfinals of the French Open. He advanced to the fourth round before losing in four sets to Jannik Sinner.
This season, Nicola Kuhn largely participated in the ATP Challenger Tour and the Halle Open qualification. The German defeated Mate Valkusz, Cedrik-Marcel Stebe, and Rinky Hijikata to advance to Wimbledon’s main draw. In the opening round of the grasscourt Major, he was defeated by Brandon Nakashima in four sets. It will be the first time when Carlos Alcaraz will face Nicola Kuhn and it will be a thrilling match to watch.

The 2022 Hamburg European Open will have five rounds of play both for the ATP and WTA competitors. These are the first round, second round, quarter-finals, semi-finals and final. The tournament is scheduled to be held from July 18 to July 24, but the qualifiers will commence from July 16 for both the men’s and women’s categories.
