Dan Evans and Constant Lestienne are scheduled to face each other in the second round of the 2022 ATP European Open on October 19.
Dan Evans advanced to the second round of ATP Antwerp by dispatching the out-of-sorts Tallon Griekspoor in his first elimination match in an indoor competition this year. On the Dutchman’s serve, he converted five breakpoint opportunities while holding onto all of his service games, 6-3 6-4. During his maiden ATP Antwerp campaign in 2020, the former British No. 1 made his first semifinal appearance on indoor hard courts since 2014. He defeated players like Frances Tiafoe and Karen Khachanov, and in the semifinal, he had a set lead against eventual champion Ugo Humbert.
This week in Antwerp’s opening round, Constant Lestienne defeated Dutch opponent Jesper De Jong, 6-3, 6-4. In two sets, he produced 11 breakpoints and won 14 of 15 points at the net. The 30-year-old Frenchman will now make his fourth consecutive second-round appearance at this level, despite having only only won one main-draw match in events on the tour prior to 2022. Before succumbing to fellow countryman Arthur Rinderknech at this round of the ATP Gijon last week, he advanced to the quarterfinal in San Diego and the semifinal in Tel Aviv.
Dan Evans and Constant Lestienne are scheduled to face each other in the second round of the 2022 ATP European Open on Wednesday, October 19. The tournament is scheduled to begin on October 17 and end on October 23.
The ATP European Open will have five rounds of action excluding the qualifiers. These are the round of 32, round of 16, quarter-finals, semi-finals and final. The competition’s main draw is set to commence on October 17, 2022 and conclude on October 23, 2022.
