Constant Lestienne and Jesper De Jong are scheduled to face each other in the first round of the 2022 ATP European Open on October 18.
Constant Lestienne was one win away from completing a hat-trick of quarterfinal results at this level in Gijon last week. Prior to 2022, Constant Lestienne had only won one main-draw match in tour-level competitions. Last month, he made his first ATP quarterfinal appearance in San Diego. The following week, he advanced even farther in Tel Aviv (SF). This incredible run came to a stop in the second round of ATP Gijon at the hands of his fellow countryman Arthur Rinderknech. Prior to 2022, his lone main-draw victory in an ATP event occurred at home in Metz in 2018. He made his debut in Antwerp that year and lost back-to-back matches to Ilya Ivashka in the last qualifying round and Jan Lennard Struff in the first round.
Jesper De Jong overcame Yannick Mertens in three sets and Manuel Guinard in straight sets to earn a spot in the main draw in Antwerp this week. Jesper De Jong previously had two unsuccessful qualifying runs at Wimbledon (QR1) and the US Open (QR3) in recent months. A few months ago, the 22-year-old Dutchman made his first (and only other) main-draw appearance on the main tour at his hometown of Hertogenbosch. He competed as a wild card and defeated Jenson Brooksby in the opening round, 6-7 3-6.
Constant Lestienne and Jesper De Jong are scheduled to face each other in the first round of the 2022 ATP European Open on Tuesday, October 18. The tournament is scheduled to begin on October 17 and end on October 23.
The ATP European Open will have five rounds of action excluding the qualifiers. These are the round of 32, round of 16, quarter-finals, semi-finals and final. The competition’s main draw is set to commence on October 17, 2022 and conclude on October 23, 2022.
