Karen Khachanov and Dan Evans are scheduled to face each other in the second round of the 2022 ATP Vienna Open on October 26.
Karen Khachanov won a close straight-set match against Jeffrey John Wolf this week, 7-6 7-5 in R1, to escape consecutive first-round exits on the main circuit (R2 in Antwerp last week, R1 bye) as well as in Vienna (R1 in 2020). The former Russian No. 1 hasn’t been consistent or at his best for the fourth straight season, but he did enough to return to the top 20 for the first time since 2020. In these ten months, he has had four semifinal (or better) finishes on the main tour, including in the US Open a few months ago.
Dan Evans advanced to the second round of the ATP Vienna by taking advantage of Oscar Otte’s recent sluggish play and lack of fitness. On the German’s serve, he generated 13 breakpoint opportunities and rallied to win the second set, 6-4 7-6, after falling behind 2-5. The former British No. 1 has been playing steady tennis in the second half of the year, and he is just one significant result away from breaking into the top-20. In Washington two months ago, he reached his first quarterfinal since January on the main circuit. He then achieved three more such feats the following weeks at the Montreal Masters, San Diego, and Antwerp.
Dan Evans and Karen Khachanov are scheduled to face one another in the second round of the 2022 ATP Vienna Open on Wednesday, October 26. The competition’s main draw is set to commence on October 24, 2022 and conclude on October 30, 2022.
The ATP Vienna Open will have five rounds of action excluding the qualifiers. These are the round of 32, round of 16, quarter-finals, semi-finals and final. The competition’s main draw is set to commence on October 24, 2022 and conclude on October 30, 2022.
