Novak Djokovic hasn’t played a competitive match since winning the Wimbledon title in July. Because of the vaccination issue, he was unable to compete in the US Open or any of the US Open Series tournaments, and he chose not to compete in the Davis Cup competition last week. As a result, Djokovic enters this year’s Laver Cup having gone nearly two and a half months without playing tennis. What makes things even more intriguing is that Djokovic has only played three matches on hard court this season. Those came in February, when the 21-time Grand Slam champion won two matches but lost in the quarterfinals to Jiri Vesely.
Frances Tiafoe had appeared on the first day of the Laver Cup competition, partnering with Jack Sock to defeat Roger Federer. The American duo of Tiafoe and Sock defeated Federer and Rafael Nadal 4-6, 7-6 (2), 11-9 in a tense but thrilling match to earn Team World a valuable point in the Laver Cup 2022. Tiafoe came into this year’s tournament having had his best Grand Slam performance to date, reaching the semifinals of the 2022 US Open in his previous appearance. Even in that last four match against Carlos Alcaraz, Tiafoe demonstrated his abilities, pushing the current number one to a fifth set before succumbing.

The 2022 Laver Cup is scheduled to commence on Friday, September 23 and conclude on Sunday, September 25.
