On January 23, the fourth round of the 2023 Australian Open will see fourth seed Novak Djokovic taking on 22nd seed Alex de Minaur. The Serbian is feeling more confident than ever after winning the Adelaide International 1 earlier this month and the ATP Finals for the sixth time in his career to cap the 2022 season. Despite having a hamstring problem, the World No. 5 defeated Roberto Carballes Baena in straight sets to begin his quest for a 22nd Major. He defeated Enzo Couacaud in four sets in the second match. He defeated Grigor Dimitrov in straight sets in the third round to increase his head-to-head advantage to 10-1.

On Tuesday, Alex de Minaur will enter the Rod Laver Arena with the goal of defeating the nine-time champion and winning the first Grand Slam match of the year to advance to the quarterfinals. The 23-year-old Australian has similar results to his following opponent, winning two matches in straight sets and one four-setter. In the first round, De Minaur defeated Taiwan’s Yu Hsiou Hsu with scores of 6-2, 6-2, and 6-3. The 24-year-old defeated Frenchman Adrian Mannarino in his second match by scores of 7-6(3), 4-6, 6-4, and 6-1 before defeating Benjamin Bonzi by scores of 7-6(0), 6-2, and 6-1. For the second year in a row, he advanced to the Australian Open’s round of 16.
