Botic Van De Zandschulp and Dominic Stricker are scheduled to face each other in the first round of the 2022 ATP European Open on October 18.
Last year, Botic Van De Zandschulp had a significant success in the US Open (QF), but it was on the indoor hard courts during this period of the season that he established himself on the main tour by posting consecutive quarterfinal (or better) results in Saint Petersburg (SF) and Stockholm (QF). On indoor hard courts this year, the Dutch #1 hasn’t created anything that comes near to it. In the previous ten months, Jiri Lehecka at home in Rotterdam, Liam Broady in Tel Aviv, and Novak Djokovic in Astana all eliminated him in the second round of their respective surface tournaments.
Dominic Stricker’s recent performances haven’t been up to par, and he’s fortunate to be in the ATP Antwerp main draw because Nicolas Alvarez Varona, who he defeated in the final qualifying round, had physical difficulties after a strong start to the match and eventually retired when trailing 6-7. The gifted Swiss teenager enters this match with a strong 4-1 record in games played in the first round on the main circuit. In 2022, he defeated Maxime Cressy twice and Marc-Andrea Huesler twice, both times losing the opening set in Stuttgart and Gstaad, respectively.
Botic Van De Zandschulp and Dominic Stricker are scheduled to face each other in the first round of the 2022 ATP European Open on Tuesday, October 18. The tournament is scheduled to begin on October 17 and end on October 23.
The ATP European Open will have five rounds of action excluding the qualifiers. These are the round of 32, round of 16, quarter-finals, semi-finals and final. The competition’s main draw is set to commence on October 17, 2022 and conclude on October 23, 2022.
