Alex de Minaur and Denis Shapovalov are scheduled to face each other in the quarterfinal round of the 2022 ATP Stockholm Open on October 20.
In the second round (R1 bye) of the ATP Stockholm, Denis Shapovalov, the heavy favourite who has a reputation of putting on subpar performances, played a clean match against Antoine Bellier, ranked 192nd in the world. He conceded nine games against the inexperienced (on the main tour) Swiss, but he was still in complete control of the match and faced no breakpoints, winning 6-4, 7-5. The former Canadian No. 1 has finally found some consistency in the second half of the season after wasting his form and momentum in the first half and failing to maximise it. He had a respectable end to the summer hardcourt swing, taking two victories each in the US Open and Cincinnati Masters.
Alex de Minaur defeated Jeffrey John Wolf, the runner-up in the ATP Florence tournament last week, to advance into the quarterfinal in Stockholm, 6-4 6-2. As his first-round opponent, Benjamin Bonzi, wasn’t fully healthy and struggled to offer any type of challenge, the fifth seed has only lost ten games in two matches this week. The only surface on which the former Australian No. 1 has not yet played in a semifinal this year is the indoor hardcourt. The current ATP Atlanta winner lost his only prior quarterfinal match on indoor hard courts in Rotterdam against the top-seed Stefanos Tsitsipas. He advanced to the semifinals on grass and clay.
Denis Shapovalovand Alex de Minaur are scheduled to face one another in the quarterfinal round of the 2022 ATP Stockholm Open on Friday, October 21. The competition’s main draw is set to commence on October 17, 2022 and conclude on October 23, 2022.
The ATP Stockholm Open will have five rounds of action excluding the qualifiers. These are the round of 32, round of 16, quarter-finals, semi-finals and final. The competition’s main draw is set to commence on October 17, 2022 and conclude on October 23, 2022.
