Alex de Minaur and Holger Rune are scheduled to face each other in the first round of the 2022 ATP Swiss Indoors on October 26.
The former Boys’ French Open champion is frequently criticised for his demeanor and outlook both on and off the court, but his exceptional performance and results on the main circuit over these first ten months of the 2022 season more than made up for those drawbacks. One of the very few athletes in 2022 to have won a championship on both the Challenger and major tours is the youngster. He won two ATP championships in Munich and Stockholm, advanced to his first-ever slam quarterfinal at the French Open, and rose nearly 70 places in the ATP rankings to into the top 25.
Last week, Alex de Minaur enjoyed his time in Stockholm, and if he had been able to restrict Holger Rune to three more service games in the semifinal, it would have been an even greater run. He won in straight sets over Denis Shapovalov, Jeffrey John Wolf, and Benjamin Bonzi, and was only three service games away from defeating the Dane and advancing to the championship match. Three years ago, the two-time former runner-up in the ATP Next Gen Finals made his debut in the competition here in Basel. He beat players like Taylor Fritz and Reilly Opelka before losing to the tournament’s fan favourite Roger Federer in the championship match.
Holger Rune and Alex de Minaur are scheduled to take on one another in the first round of the 2022 ATP Swiss Indoors on Wednesday, October 26. The tournament is scheduled to be held from October 23 to October 30, 2022.
