In the first round of the ATP Florence tournament earlier this month, his countrywoman Mackenzie McDonald defeated him in three sets. Last week, Jack Draper overpowered him in the opening round of the ATP Antwerp tournament. The American amateur, who had great promise in the second part of the 2021 season, has disappointed this year after posting some notable achievements on the main tour, like placing second in Atlanta and Dallas (IH) and reaching the semifinals in Seoul.

In 2020 (Antwerp), Ugo Humbert won the championship during this period of the season. However, he is now in a position to compete for main-draw spots in ATP events. In his most recent match at this level, which took place in Sofia last month, the Frenchman advanced to the second round and successfully qualified for the main draw. The former world number 25 finished the 2021 campaign with five straight losses, and catching COVID early in 2022 only made matters worse as he struggled on the main tour the entire year before falling below the top 100 in the ATP rankings.
