Alex de Minaur defeated fourth seed Denis Shapovalov in the Stockholm Open quarterfinals on Friday to advance to the final four without dropping a set. The Australian, who won 80% of his points on his first serve, saved three of four breakpoints and converted three of five that he held. In the first two rounds, De Mianur was even more dominant. He defeated Benjamin Bonzi 6-3, 6-1 in the first round before defeating JJ Wolf 6-4, 6-2 in the second round. De Minaur, a six-time tour champion, is aiming for an 11th final appearance. This year, he did make it, winning his second title in Atlanta by defeating Jenson Brookby in the final.
Holger Rune broke Cameron Norrie’s perfect record against him, defeating the Briton in the fourth attempt. The world number 27 came back from a set down to defeat the second seed and advance to his fourth season semifinal. Rune won his first ATP title in April in Munich after finishing second in his previous tournament in Sofia. In what has been a fantastic season for him, he has also reached the final four in Lyon. After being defeated by Norrie in the first set tiebreak, Rune bounced back with two service breaks in the second round and then closed out the match with a single break in the third. The 6-7 (4-7), 6-3, 6-3 victory was his most difficult so far in the tournament.
