On Wednesday, Australia's Alex de Minaur, the 11th seed will play Japan's Yoshihito Nishioka in the second round of the 2022 ATP Citi Open.
Even Nevertheless, Alex de Minaur triumphed in Atlanta by defeating Jenson Brooksby in the championship match. The two were scheduled to play again in Washington, but the American handily defeated Nishioka, setting up this contest. De Minaur will benefit from it since he is the superior player, in better shape, and more motivated than anyone else. He has a career record of 0–2 versus Nishioka, so you can bet he’ll want to turn that around. For the Australian, this year has been largely successful. He had a strong year in North America earlier this year, and his play appeared to have really improved. With a 32-16 record and a 12-5 mark on hard courts, this is undeniably true. De Minaur participated in this year’s final and lost to Alexander Zverev, so he is familiar with the competition.
Nishioka defeated Jenson Brooksby in round one of Washington against all odds, but that’s exactly what happened. The Japanese player did not play a flawless match—far from it, in fact—but he did leverage Brooksby’s really subpar performance. Because the American never showed up in the correct manner, it was an odd contest. Despite breaking Nishioka twice, he repeatedly lost his serve, and the game was not close. On the second serve, Nishioka used a highly aggressive comeback, and de Minaur followed suit. Brooksby was obviously still preoccupied with Atlanta, but it was to be expected given his personality. Nishioka has a year record of 29-17 and a hard court record of 15-8, but the majority of those results came from the Challenger Tour.
De Minaur vs Yoshihito Nishioka will face each other in the second round of the 2022 Citi open on Wednesday, August 3. The ATP 500 competition is scheduled to start from August 1 and end on August 7 this year.
