Alex de Minaur, rated 20th in the world, will play 45th-ranked Filip Krajinovic on Monday in the opening round of the 2022 US Open.
Despite losing in the second round in Cincinnati last week, Alex de Minaur may be proud of the way he has handled himself in this year’s hard court contests. The 2022 hard-court match winner who advanced to the quarterfinals of the US Open in 2020 has won 15 of his 23 contests, including a title win in the most recent Atlanta Open. He won there over Ilya Ivashka and Jenson Brooksby, which helped him win the event. De Minaur reached the fourth round at Wimbledon earlier this season and finished in the semifinals at Eastbourne. De Minaur will hope to start off with a lot more confidence than a second round rout at Cincinnati could have implied if he has that kind of form under his belt.
Krajinovic chose to participate in just two tournaments on hard courts leading up to this year’s US Open since he is more accustomed to playing on clay court surfaces. Dan Evans defeated the world number 45 in the first round of the Canadian Open, and although defeating Evans in his very next match, Filip Krajinovic lost in the second round of the Cincinnati Open. To be fair to him, he was defeated by Stefanos Tsitsipas, a player with far more experience on hard courts. Krajinovic had trouble in most outdoor hard court matches earlier this year, although he did go to the semifinal of the Montpellier Open indoors. Despite an unexpected final performance at the Queen’s Club competition on grass, the first-round matchup with de Minaur might be challenging.
Alex de Minaur and Filip Krajinovic are scheduled to face one another in the first round match of the US Open 2022 on Monday, August 29 . The 2022 US Open is all set to begin from August 29 till September 11.
The 2022 US Open will see six rounds of action excluding the qualifiers. These include the round of 64, round of 32, round of 16, quarter-finals, semi-finals and final for both men’s and women’s. The tournament is scheduled to commence on August 29 and conclude on September 11 this year.
